Tips for Visiting the Mountains

STAY HYDRATED to Avoid Altitude Sickness
Drink water—lots of it! Start hydrating a week before your trip and keep it up once you arrive in Colorado.

POTENTIAL BUZZKILL
Take it easy on the alcohol. It hits harder at higher elevations and can worsen the effects of altitude sickness.

SUNNY DISPOSITION
Wear sunscreen! At over a mile above sea level, the air is thinner and the sun is stronger. You’ll burn much faster than you might expect.

EAT YOUR CARBS

Carbohydrates help your body absorb oxygen more efficiently, which is important because oxygen levels decrease at higher altitudes.

WEAR LAYERS
Temperatures tend to drop once the sun goes down, so make sure you have something to stay warm in the evening.
